In Marvel's Han Solo & Chewbacca, the origins of the Millennium Falcon's golden dice are revealed, the last gift Luke Skywalker gave to Leia.

Warning: spoilers ahead for Han Solo & Chewbacca #2!

In the latest issue of Han Solo & Chewbacca, the origins of Luke Skywalker's final gift to Leia are revealed. While Star Wars' sequel trilogy never saw the original trio of heroes reuniting once more in the galaxy's new era, Han Solo's memory was still honored by the Skywalker twins through his classic golden dice. Now, this new issue confirms where Han got his lucky charm, confirming its major significance even before Han Solo became a hero of the Rebellion.

Taking place in the era between Solo: A Star Wars Story and A New Hope, the first issue of Halo Solo & Chewbacca sees Jabba the Hutt partnering Solo and his Wookie first mate with none other than Greedo, the enforcer Han is destined to kill in the first Star Wars movie. While they have no choice but to work together in this new series, that doesn't mean either of them is happy about it (potentially being the reason Greedo is so eager to kill Han in the near future.) Embarking on a heist on his homeworld of Corellia, the smuggler is surprised to come face to face with an old shipbuilder who claims to be Han Solo's estranged father Ovan.

Being a scavenger for the majority of his childhood after being abandoned by his father and becoming a smuggler after that, Han is naturally suspicious of the man claiming to be his reunion-seeking dad. However, Han Solo & Chewbacca #2 from Marc Guggenheim and David Messina sees Ovan sharing history that only Han's father could seemingly know. He's also carrying a holo-image of the day he gave Han his lucky golden dice, the very same ones given to Leia by her brother Luke Skywalker before he sacrificed himself to save the Resistance in The Last Jedi.

Although the dice were revealed to be a Force projection like Luke in The Last Jedi's ending, it was still Luke's sentimental way of honoring Solo, who died previously in The Force Awakens. The new focus on the dice continued in Solo, Lucasfilm's next Star Wars release following The Last Jedi, which confirmed Han had the dice long before he became captain of the Millennium Falcon and hung them above the pilot's chair. Now, this issue has revealed that the dice have always been an object of sentiment, originally being a gift from Han's father.

While Han Solo's carefree smuggler's lifestyle doesn't leave much room for sentiment (let alone trust), he's always had his dice. As such, they've convinced Han to trust that Ovan is who he says he is and to let him join the heist for Jabba. Here's hoping Solo doesn't get burned as the series continues. Either way, the newly added significance put on Han Solo's dice makes Luke Skywalker gifting them to Leia even better in the Star Wars canon.
