GeekDad Review: 1More True Wireless ANC Earbuds with THX Certification-GeekDad

I have had the opportunity to try wireless earbuds of various audio brands, but I have been looking forward to the new models of 1More. This is a company that has decided to earn its reputation by skipping marketing activities instead of investing money in high-quality components. It is customers who are looking for performance rather than flash memory-even though they always have a strong design. The strategy has paid off. 1 More earplugs are always impressive. The company’s True Wireless ANC earplugs are very good and have passed THX certification, which is no small feat.

1More True Wireless ANC earbuds made their debut in 2020 and immediately began to receive praise. They won the CES 2020 Innovation Award and the 2020 iF Design Award. Obtained THX certification in June 2020, becoming the world's first THX certified true wireless in-ear headphones.

In the press release, 1More and THX stated:

"These true wireless ANC in-ear headphones have passed our rigorous testing process and have now passed THX certification, proving their high-quality audio performance."

What does it mean? 1 More engineers actually modified the design of the earplugs originally released to obtain certification (units produced after June 2020 are qualified). This is a recognition that they provide high-quality audio for music and movie playback.

If you work from home, ANC may get your attention. 1These earplugs are equipped with dual microphones dedicated to noise reduction and DSP dedicated to signal processing. They provide two levels of ANC. One stage can filter up to 35 dB of noise. Level 2 can reduce environmental noise by up to 20 dB. There is also a pass-through mode that allows ambient noise to pass through to improve situational awareness.

I spent a lot of time testing these while working in a home office. In blocking environmental noise, earplugs will never be as effective as headphones. Sealing the cups on the ears provides a high degree of passive noise isolation, giving them a better starting point.

However, as far as the buds are concerned, these are well done. In their strongest environment, I could only hear the faint clicking sound of the mechanical keyboard and the barking of the dog. However, I usually stick to low ANC settings. This is enough to eliminate background noise from the floor below me — my wife at a Zoom meeting, children talking, people nudging in the kitchen, animals running around — these are the main sources of distraction during the day.

If you want to listen to music, but also want to hear what is happening around you, there is a pass-through mode that can transmit ambient sound to your ears.

• Dynamic driver + balanced armature • Audio customized by Grammy Award-winning sound engineer Luca Bignardi • 45-degree angled nozzle • 2-level hybrid active noise reduction with pass-through mode (dual ANC Mac with custom DSP) • THX Certifications • Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX and AAC support • ENC microphone for voice calls • Touch control with multi-function buttons • Infrared sensor with auto pause function • Battery rated time is 4-6 hours (depending on ANC and Qualcomm TrueWireless technology support) • Total playback time, including a shell rated at 18-22 hours • Fast charging (2 hours of playback after 15 minutes of charging) • Charging case compatible with Q1, USB-C • Single earplug weight 0.28 ounces • Including three pairs Silicone ear clips, six pairs of silicone earplugs, carrying bag, USB-C charging cable

You may have noticed that the battery life changes in the specifications are much greater than what you usually see in wireless earbuds. The first reason is active noise reduction. When ANC is enabled, the playback time of approximately one hour will be reduced. The second reason is their support for Qualcomm TrueWireless Tech. If your smartphone also supports this technology, then you can expect an hour or so of playing time longer than the baseline. Therefore, depending on your phone and whether you use ANC, the battery life may have a considerable range.

My iPhone lacks TrueWireless support. With active noise reduction enabled (I prefer to keep it on all the time to improve bass response), I only reach four hours per charge. Not very good, but acceptable.

The charging case is very beautiful-stylish and made of metal-with a choice of USB-C or Qi wireless charging.

Earbuds are not my favorite shape of headphones. I appreciate this attraction, but it is often difficult for me to find suitable flower buds. This makes it difficult to obtain a good seal, which is essential for audio performance and preventing them from popping out. I guess it's strange ears.

1More has designed 45-degree angled nozzles for these earplugs, and offers a variety of silicone ear clips and earplugs to choose from. I found a very suitable combination. I can also wear them for several hours at a time without discomfort.

I save the best for last. I have tested many different earbud versions of 1More, and the company has always done a good job in terms of audio performance. The True Wireless ANC earbuds are equipped with a dynamic driver with a 10 mm titanium diaphragm and a balanced armature. These headphones do not rely on one driver to do all the work like many earplugs, but use dynamic drivers for bass and midrange, and use a balanced armature to hit high frequencies. The earplugs are tuned by Luca Bignardi, a Grammy award-winning sound engineer.

The result is clean, clear, and balanced audio. Turn on ANC, and the changes will happen. The sound has gained a little warmth, and the bass has been greatly improved. Just as I like the quality of an earbud studio, I prefer the sound with ANC on. A lot of energy and a lot of fun to listen to.

If you want high-quality audio and effective ANC, 1More True Wireless ANC earbuds are a good choice. With ANC turned on, they are one of the best headphones I've tried, and they provide the kind of visceral bass punch that so many earplugs can't achieve. Their price is $199.99, which is great value for money, but at the time of writing, they are reduced by $20, making them a more attractive option.
