Digital Artist Reimagines Household Objects as Epic Spaceship Drawings

Most of us give very little thought to everyday household items, but San Francisco-based digital artist Eric Geusz turns kitchen utensils, stationery, and other ordinary objects into spectacular spaceship designs capable of exploring the galaxy. He clearly isn’t short on talent or imagination, but it can take time to visualize each one-of-a-kind spaceship. “Sometimes the object instantly screams an idea,” Geusz tells My Modern Met. “Other times I can tell it has a cool shape, but I look at it from many angles trying to find the best approach.”

The talented digital artist, whose day job is a software engineer, finds inspiration in popular space-themed films such as Star Wars as well as sci-fi comic book artists and illustrators including Moebius, Peter Elson, and Chris Foss. “I also love the early ‘50s and ‘60s era space tech,” Geusz shares. “I love photos of old Soviet rocket parts and those old futuristic concept paintings they used to do for the space program back then.”

This retrofuturism influence shines through in each of Geusz’s spaceship drawings. In one piece, the artist reimagines a pair of egg-shaped salt and pepper shakers as space pods for cats, and, in another, Geusz turns an eight-sided dice into a polyhedron-shaped “D20 Surface Recon Lander.” He’s even envisioned a bottle of hot chili sauce as an epic intergalactic vessel with Sriracha’s iconic chicken logo as its emblem. Geusz says that the “Sriracha Ship will spice up any fleet engagement!”
